Caterpillar damage usually occurs in late summer and early autumn, but recently some caterpillars have been causing problems throughout the growing season. There are several biological control methods of caterpillar control.
Straw-coloured tortrix moth (Clepsis spectrana)
ochre yellow ground colour, brown oblique cross border, brown surface on the front edge against the wing tip.
Summer fruit tortrix moth (Adoxophyes orana)
brown ground colour, two brown oblique cross borders.
Carnation tortrix moth (Cacoecimorpha pronubana)
brown ground colour, brown cross borders only marked, rear wing orange at the basis.
like the male, but a bit bigger; front wing more pointed; rear wing more pale.
Summer fruit tortrix moth (Adoxophyes orana)
like male but a bit bigger, front wing a bit more pointed.
Carnation tortrix moth (Cacoecimorpha pronubana)
like male but clearly bigger, front wing pointed, rear wing almost completely orange.
